A county councillor has pleaded not guilty after being charged with an electoral law offence.

Andy Osborn, 74, who is a member of Cambridgeshire County Council, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with making or publishing a false statement before or during an election in relation to the candidate’s personal character or conduct, under the Representation of the People Act 1983.

Mr Osborn, who was elected as the Reform UK representative for Roman Bank and Peckover in May, will next appear in court on 17 October for a case management hearing.

Reform UK has been approached for comment.
