After Germany’s dominant 4-0 victory over Luxembourg, Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich was told that 25 of his 29 career assists for Germany have come while he has played right-back, the veteran understood where the question was going.
For the 30-year-old, it does not matter whether he plays right-back or in the central midfield.
“In the end the coach decides. I clearly said that I’m happy to play where the coach sees me. At Bayern I’m very clearly a No. 6. In the national team the coach decides,” said Kimmich (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kimmich had two goals (one penalty kick), so it was no surprise that his return to right-back was well-received by fans.
Will he stay there for the long run of this World Cup cycle?
Germany was in need of a good performance and Luxembourg was the right squad for the moment.
The team spirit appeared to be much higher than the last international where the German were flat and the renewed energy helped power the team to a 4-0 victory. An early red card played a massive role in the outcome, but Germany likely would have rolled easily even without being a man-up for three quarters of the match.
