We Are Palace understand Charlie Cresswell is being considered as a replacement for Marc Guehi at Selhurst Park.

The England international is currently playing the final games of his Crystal Palace career ahead of his contract expiring in July – with no intention of signing fresh terms amid interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid.

As such, the Eagles are in the process of identifying a replacement for Marc Guehi, and We Are Palace have now been informed that Cresswell is an option who has impressed Crystal Palace.

Exclusive: Crystal Palace monitoring Charlie Cresswell

Graeme Bailey has now exclusively told We Are Palace that the England U21 international is being watched by Matt Hobbs – the new Director of Football in SE25.

Cresswell emerged from the academy at Leeds United back in September 2020, but made only 14 appearances before eventually being sold to Toulouse for a sum of £3.8m in July 2024 – shortly after a loan to Millwall in the 2022/23 campaign.

The 23-year-old has since become a key man for the French side, making 31 appearances and scoring three goals as he helped them finish tenth in Ligue 1 last season.

We Are Palace understand Cresswell is still the subject of scouting trips by Crystal Palace, who have the man born in Preston firmly on their radar after being left impressed.

The Toulouse No.4 is considered to be a player of significant potential.

Bailey adds that Crystal Palace expect Guehi to leave for free in the summer rather than seal an exit in the winter transfer window, and are not even trying to get the 25-year-old to stay anymore.

Charlie Cresswell already knows a Crystal Palace player well in Jaydee Canvot

If Cresswell does end up at Crystal Palace, Hobbs would reunite two thirds of the Toulouse backline from last season.

Jaydee Canvot – who rejected Aston Villa for the Eagles – played alongside the former Leeds United man and Mark McKenzie in defence for the French side last season, and can boast 19 appearances in total next to Cresswell.

Interestingly, Carles Martinez also deploys a 3-4-2-1 formation, the same shape as Oliver Glasner.

Therefore, Cresswell would be better equipped for life at Crystal Palace compared to a defender more comfortable playing in a four-man backline.
