Described by organisers as “the biggest community event of the year”, it took place at the Fisherrow Centre on South Street.

Many groups, sports clubs and council departments were showcased. Entertainment and children’s activities were also enjoyed.

Held annually by the Musselburgh Area Partnership (MAP), the event, which spread over the ground floor of the main building and included the annex, was hailed a “huge success” by visitors, stall holders and organisers alike.

Alister Hadden, organiser and vice chair of MAP, said: “The amount of information that was available from the Dementia Friendly and cost-of-living people at their stalls is quite incredible, and showed how much help is available when you have the right people sharing it and making it easier to access.

“The atrium entertainment from all ages, and co-ordinated by our MC Fox Stewart, was really special and delightful to listen to, and either had you foot-tapping or singing along, appreciating how much enjoyment they brought to the event.

“Our children’s activities where lovely with Bookbug, and with so many of all ages having their faces painted, our circus skills lady was delighted by the numbers queuing at the gym door to take part in the activity skills that were on offer throughout the afternoons event.

“The Play, Talk Read Bus was very popular with the kids and their parents, and lovely for them to come along.

“Outside in the car park, we had the fire engine, In Tandem, Cycling Without Age, Beyond Boundaries and Fisherrow Community Garden, who all did a great job giving kids and families every opportunity to try out, climb aboard, sample and enjoy the day.

“Our café team in the atrium lounge did a remarkable and amazing job keeping an endless stream of our visitors and stallholders, along with cadets and other supporters, supplied with food and drinks throughout the event for free, and I give recognition to those businesses within the town who kindly made and donated food to our event, which was obviously greatly appreciated.

“Our army, police and sea cadets gave great support to help steward and help where needed was a massive contribution to the day’s event.

“A big thank you to all.”

Gaynor Allen, chair of MAP, added: “A huge thank you to Alister and the Communities Day team.

“The day showcased the amazing things that happen in the Musselburgh area and how lucky we are to have so many people that together make it such a great place to live.

“Thank you to all stallholders, volunteers and visitors to this event. It was our biggest and best yet and had a great buzz to it.

“See you all next year.”
