With Halloween fast-approaching many of us will be heading to pumpkin patches to select the perfect pumpkin for carving or cooking with.
It’s always a fun thing to do, especially if you’ve got kids, and a lot more exciting than simply buying one from your local supermarket.
Now a new study has named the best pumpkin patches in the UK – and two of them are right here in Greater Manchester.
Cockfield’s Farm Park in Ashton-under-Lyne and Smithills Open Farm in Bolton both featured in a list of the 10 best farms in the UK for pumpkin-picking.

An overall ‘quality score’ was then assigned for each venue which was then used to rank the top ten locations. Cockfield’s Farm Park in Ashton-under-Lyne achieved a score of 22.3, placing it in fifth place, calculated from an average Google review rating of 4.3 and a total of 22.3k Instagram followers.
The farm goes all out at Halloween with lots of fun activities kids will love and plenty of photo opportunities. This year there is a Mini Pumpkin Patch for toddlers and a Pumpkin Patch After Dark experience where you can pick a pumpkin and enjoy activities alongside live music and food and drink stalls.
Meanwhile Smithills Open Farm in Bolton came in eighth place, with a score of 20.9. It has an average Google review rating of 4.7 and 20.9k Instagram followers.
Smithills Open Farm runs a pumpkin-picking event with staff dressed up in fancy dress to help keep little ones entertained. It also has various events running throughout Halloween and you can find out more here.
But both of these patches were beaten by another pumpkin patch which is on the doorstep of Greater Manchester – Kenyon Hall Farm in Warrington, which bagged first place thanks to a score of 36.4. It achieved a Google rating of 4.5 with 36.4K Instagram followers.
