Since we first developed a global fixation with Meghan Markle – sometime around 2016, when rumours of her royal romance first began swirling – we’ve seen many iterations of the now Duchess. She’s gone from sharing false eyelashes with Chrissy Teigen on the set of Deal or No Deal, to being decked out in camel cashmere and other Goopy neutrals while presenting guests with mason jars of homemade bath salts at her Montecito compound, and there have been all manner of looks in between.
Recently, the mogul (a catch-all term that, for Meghan, now covers podcaster, TV personality, author and humanitarian), has hit pause on her West Coast wardrobe and stepped up her fashion game, starting by making her Paris Fashion Week debut before a row of speechless editors at Pierpaolo Piccioli’s first Balenciaga show. She followed this with sharp Armani tailoring for a night out in New York last week, and now, has delivered a tweed take on date-night dressing while on the town with Prince Harry.

For an evening at Soho House in New York, Meghan swapped her custom Balenciaga for Chanel – a strapless bandeau dress from the autumn/winter 2023 collection. While it certainly chimes with the high fashion mood she’s been embracing in recent weeks, it nods to her past, too: what could be more royal than tweed?
