A nursery has been closed with immediate effect after an “incident” involving a single member of staff.

Partou Barnwood Day Nursery on Barnwood Road in Gloucester was shut down with immediate effect yesterday, Monday, October 13, reports GloucestershireLive.

Families were told the nursery’s registration to practise had been suspended temporarily by Ofsted, following an incident at the nursery.

The incident involved a single member of staff who was suspended and was now subject to a police probe, according to the nursery operator Partou.

The parents of the child involved were informed and were being supported. It was not known how long the nursery would remain shut.

Ofsted told reporters it would monitor the suspension and continue to work with other agencies.

A spokesperson for Partou, a nursery and childcare group responsible for more than 100 nurseries in the UK, said: “On Monday, October 13, we advised families that Barnwood Day Nursery in Gloucester was closed with immediate effect, following the temporary suspension by Ofsted of the nursery’s registration to practise.

“Families were advised of the nursery’s closure as soon as possible.

“The suspension follows a decision by Ofsted to investigate an incident involving a single member of staff, which was immediately escalated as part of our own rigorous safeguarding processes, and the relevant authorities informed.

“The staff member concerned was suspended immediately, and is now subject to a police investigation.

“The parents of the child involved were immediately informed and are being supported. We will of course be providing the authorities with all possible support and assistance.

“Owing to the active police investigation, no further details about the incident can be shared at this time.”

Gloucestershire Police were approached for comment.
