Vernon Kay was blasted by BBC listeners
Vernon Kay has been faced with a barrage of complaints from BBC Radio 2 listeners after accidentally revealing a spoiler for a popular reality show.
The 51-year-old has now vowed to steer clear of discussing Celebrity Traitors during his live broadcasts. The hit murder-mystery programme continues tonight on Wednesday, October 15, on the BBC with another episode tomorrow.
The following two instalments are set to air next Wednesday and Thursday. However many viewers opt to tune in later on BBC iPlayer, with the spoiler causing havoc for the presenter.
This has prompted Vernon to avoid any mention of the programme to prevent spoiling it for his Radio 2 audience, according to the Mirror.
Speaking on air, Vernon explained: “I’m going to avoid Traitors, I’m going to avoid it because people watch it on catch-up don’t they? So I’m not going to talk about it on the radio.

“It’s not like I’m going to avoid it, I’m going to watch it, I’m going to consume it, but I’m not going to talk about it because people get really tetchy.
“I gave away the winner of Dress the Nation on Sunday, [I] congratulated the winner, oh my gosh, I got a tonne of grief.”
Mimicking an angry listener, Vernon declared “I’ve not watched it yet”, before continuing: “I always forget about catch-up, I’m a little bit old-school like that. I like watching it. There’s a service on your digital broadcasting system where you can pause the football, go make a brew and you pause it.
“You never play it from where you paused it. If you play it from where you paused it, you’re a psychopath.”
Elsewhere, retail assistant Casey Dillon, 23, was crowned Dress the Nation champion on Sunday. Vernon presents the ITV show alongside AJ Odudu.
The programme represents the latest milestone in a broadcasting career that has spanned 30 years. Vernon landed a role on Channel 5’s The Mag in 1998 before moving to Channel 4’s T4 in 2000.
It was whilst working on T4 that he met his future wife Tess Daly, who was presenting SMTV Live on ITV at the time. Vernon later went on to present shows including All Star Family Fortunes and Splash!
Tess, meanwhile, presents Strictly Come Dancing. The couple first met at a party in the early 2000s before their relationship blossomed.
They tied the knot in Horwich in 2003 and went on to welcome daughters Phoebe and Amber. Tess has previously opened up about their “explosive” start to their relationship.
Speaking to Fabulous magazine, she said: “It was all quite immediate, really, because we instantly had such a blast together. I couldn’t imagine having more fun with anyone else. It was pretty explosive, I tell you.”
Six years ago Vernon surprised Tess with a trip to the South of France, where he had secretly arranged a vow renewal ceremony complete with multiple outfit options for his unsuspecting wife.
Discussing his stint on I’m A Celebrity..Get Me out of Here! Vernon shared: “I booked a weekend in our favourite hotel in the South of France and I spoke to her stylist at the time and I said I needed four dresses.”
He added: “She didn’t know anything. I gave her a card and it said congratulations on your second wedding day and I said we’re going to renew our vows. She said ‘I’ve got nothing to wear’ and I said ‘you say that… pick one’.”
