Amo Racing recorded two wins and two places from five runners at Brighton to finish the series with total prize money of £17,560, narrowly ahead of owner-trainer A W Carroll, who amassed £14,887 in prize money from horses running in his own colours.
The first ever Brighton Owners Series, in collaboration with the Racehorse Owners Association, began on April 20th with Brighton’s season opening fixture and culminated in the third and final day of the Star Sports Brighton Racing Festival on Friday August 8th.
Brighton-based independent bookmaker Star Sports sponsored the series with a £10,000 prize for the winning owner as well as £5,000 to be given to a nominated charity of their choice.
Flynn Goward, Managing Director at Star Sports, said: “Launching the Brighton Owners Series this year was a fantastic opportunity to support our local track and the owners that run their horses there.
“It was a closely fought race throughout, which added to the excitement for all owners at Brighton, and we’re delighted to award the first Owners Series title and £10,000 to Amo Racing, as well as £5,000, which will be donated to a very worthy cause in local charity Parkfield Equine Solutions.”
Paul Ellison, Executive Director of Brighton Racecourse, said: “Brighton Racecourse would like to extend a big thank you to Star Sports for their generous sponsorship this year.
“The Owners’ Series has been hugely well received and recognises their vital role in the sport.
“Many congratulations to Amo Racing on winning the series and once again thank you to Star Sports, for their innovative thinking and sponsorship.”
Louise Norman, Chief Executive of the ROA, commented: “Many congratulations to Amo Racing on winning the inaugural Star Sports Brighton Owners Series. The ROA is committed to recognising and rewarding owners at all levels of the sport, and this initiative has been a fantastic way to do just that at Brighton Racecourse.
“Our thanks go to Star Sports for their generous support which ensures owners feel valued and celebrated at the track.”
