Police have arrested a man following an incident at the YMCA on Leeds Street in Liverpool city centre earlier today, Thursday, October 16. At around 3.15pm, officers were called to reports of an altercation involving a man in possession of a needle.

Officers arrived and detained a 46-year-old man with no fixed address. He was arrested on suspicion of affray, possession of an offensive weapon, and assaulting an emergency worker. The man has been taken to a police station for questioning.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing, police said.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We have arrested a man following an incident in Liverpool city centre today, Thursday October 16.

“At around 3.15pm, officers were called to the YMCA on Leeds Street to reports of an altercation in which a man was reported as being in possession of a needle.

“Officers attended and a 46-year-man of no fixed abode was arrested on suspicion of affray, possession of an offensive weapon; and assault of an emergency worker. He has been taken to a police station for questioning.”
