Frankfurt Airport has announced the confirmed opening dates of its third terminal, pegged for 22 April 2026.

In this last lap ahead of inaugurations, about 8,000 test passengers will put the terminal through its paces for 21 days between January to April.

Once open, the new terminal will be able to handle up to 19 million passengers a year. Some 57 airlines currently based in Terminal 2 will be shifted to Terminal 3, in four phases between mid-April and early June.

Frankfurt Airport is Germany’s largest airport, and one of the leading air traffic hubs in Europe, receiving approximately 61.6 million passengers in 2024.

The international airport is also one of the adopters of the new European Entry/Exit System (EES), which came into effect on 12 October last week. The EES came into effect first at Düsseldorf Airport, and will gradually be introduced to the Frankfurt and Munich airports by 9 April 2026.
