It’s been a very difficult 2025 for Frances Tiafoe on the ATP Tour.

Two years ago, Tiafoe was sitting at a career-best number 10 in the world, but the past 12 months have been a real struggle for the American.

Taylor Fritz praised Tiafoe after beating him in the semifinal of the US Open in 2024, and it was anticipated that he might kick on in 2025.

Tiafoe has pulled out of a number of tournaments recently and now he’s decided to make a decision on his future participation on the tour for the rest of 2025.

With some tournaments still left to play on the ATP calendar, it wasn’t completely clear what Tiafoe would choose to do for the remainder of the year.

However, now it’s become clear as Tiafoe has announced that he’s ending his 2025 early to focus on getting himself right physically and mentally for 2026.

Tiafoe recently admitted he wanted to start competing with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz but that does feel like a long way off right now.

On Instagram, Tiafoe posted: “2025 season has come to an end early this year for the kid. It wasn’t the season I hoped for but lots of lessons were learned on and off the court.

“I want to give a huge S/O to my team. I’ve been with these guys for several years. We’ve shared some incredible moments that I’ll remember forever.

“That being said I’ve decided it’s time for a change. I truly appreciate the love..energy…passion and brotherhood. It’s been a great ride and only bigger and better things for all of us ahead.

“Excited for what’s ahead for me and ready to put the work in. Thanks for all the love and support thru it all. The best is yet to come.”

David Witt responds after severing ties with Frances Tiafoe

Tiafoe has worked with Witt since July 2024 but now the relationship has come to an end, with the two parties going in opposite directions.

The 27-year-old is a very capable player on his day and clearly, he’s not happy with the drastic drop off in his performance levels during 2025.

It would appear that there are no hard feelings for Tiafoe and Witt, however, with the coach also taking to Instagram to confirm the news.

He said: “Thanks, Big Foe, for the ride this last year and a half. Some things come to an end, but good memories, great times, and a friendship last forever. Thanks, brotha – nothing but love.”

Frances Tiafoe statistics 2025

Tiafoe is currently ranked at number 28 in the world rankings, and that is quite frankly very poor for a player with two Grand Slam semis to his name.

Something has to change for Tiafoe, and the hope will be that he can return in better shape for the 2026 season.

Tiafoe is a very popular player on the ATP Tour and nobody will take any satisfaction from his drop off in form during the second half of 2025.

With lots of United States players starting to achieve good results, Tiafoe will return next year looking to offer a timely reminder that he’s still got what it takes to get to the business ends of big tournaments.
