A young future star of the stage is preparing to perform in front of Broadway producers stateside as she urges fellow young talent to get involved with a special opportunity.

Millie Wilson, 17, is a former pupil of Dunblane High and has been enrolled at the Dance School of Scotland for the last four years, gaining valuable stage experience in top theatre shows.

Her appearances include Bring It On at Aberdeen’s His Majesty’s Theatre and Little Shop of Horrors at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre next summer.

Beyond Broadway Experience offers performers aged 8-25 the chance to collaborate with a professional team on productions staged at some of Scotland’s most prestigious venues.

Following her summer performances, Millie will next month have the chance to jet off to New York to perform before renowned Broadway and international casting directors.

“Over the past four years, I’ve had the privilege of performing with Beyond Broadway Experience in Edinburgh and, more recently, in Aberdeen,” said Millie.

“I started off being cast as Frenchie in Grease and, in summer, performed as Jellylorum in Cats in Aberdeen, and as Rusty in the Edinburgh show Footloose. Rusty was my most rewarding role to date, which challenged my vocal range and allowed me to explore comedic performance. BBEXP is such a great experience and I would say anyone keen to perform and learn should get involved.”

Millie, who is a member of local group Rubber Chicken Theatre, is now based at Knightswood High School in Glasgow for Dance School of Scotland’s 6th Year Fast Track Musical Theatre course.

Following her performances in the two BBEXP productions in summer in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, she was awarded two Broadway Dreams scholarships, one week-long mentorship programme in Germany and another, next month in New York, learning alongside fellow young performers from some of the best-known Broadway talent.

“In Germany, we had an incredible week of intensive training with industry professionals, culminating in a final showcase performance. The experience was both inspiring and educational, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity.”

“I was also honoured to be invited to the Broadway Dreams programme in New York in November. I’m thrilled to continue learning and performing alongside such talented individuals and to present our work to industry professionals.”
