A new “groovy” fitness studio has opened in Merseyside. Elizabeth Ball, 22, from Rainhill opened Hot Curl Pilates in Kirkby town centre on Monday, October 6, bringing a new fitness experience and the popular form of exercise to the area.

Elizabeth told the ECHO: “So I’ve danced since I was around three and then I trained in karate since I was about five for ten years. I got my black belt when I was 13 and trained with Team GB. So I’ve always been athletic, loved having something to work towards whether it be a competition, a fight, or dance competitions. I still dance now, so I suppose I still love that aspect of it. I’m very competitive.

“When I was growing up, sometimes you kind of fall out of love with other hobbies that you’ve had. I have fell into new ones, I’ve loved training in the gym and ended up falling into Pilates because of how big it was – the trend it was becoming.

“I loved the new challenge. I just absolutely love it, it’s so fun.”

The new studio is located in one of several units in Kirkby town centre, next to The Coffee Shop. The 22 year old added: “When I found this it was a complete blank canvas for me to work on.

“A lot of the Pilates studios now, they’re very beige, minimal, and I just wanted to create something that was a bit more me, something that’s fun and a bit more engaging – something that’s different.

“It’s very loud, but still has a really tranquil feel. Although it’s very bright, and it’s very colourful, it still has that relaxing feel to it. It’s quite groovy, we have a disco ball in here which is quite cool.”

The studio has five beds so the room isn’t overloaded and instructors can give visitors a personal experience and get the most out of their sessions. There are also three on-demand screens with 800 workouts, so when instructor led classes aren’t running people can do their own workout.

Elizabeth believes it is “the only studio” in the area to provide this. The workouts can be filtered to particular areas, such as abs and glutes, and feature pre and postnatal classes.

The studio has pay-as-you-go (£16 per class) or class pack options which come in a four (£60), eight (£104) or 12 (£150) pack, with a month and a half expiry. All the booking is done on the website or the Besport app.

She added: “It’s been really positive. We’ve had so many people who are completely brand new to reformer who have wanted to try it for ages and just haven’t got round to it or because there’s nothing really like this in Kirkby.

“It’s been really good. It’s been good seeing people be so surprised by how challenging it is, and now watching them fall in love with it. Everyone kind of gets addicted to it.

“Once you come, you won’t regret it.”
