A budding Livingston stage performer has urged talented young people from West Lothian to join him and pursue an “incredible” opportunity to star in huge theatres next year.

Joseph Gall, 18, a former pupil of St Margaret’s Academy, plans to return to the Beyond Broadway Experience [BBEXP] for the third successive year to continue gaining valuable stage experience, culminating in roles in hit musicals Bring It On at Aberdeen’s His Majesty’s Theatre and Little Shop of Horrors at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre next summer.

Beyond Broadway Experience gives performers aged eight to 25 years the opportunity to work with a professional team on a production staged in some of Scotland’s most prestigious venues.

“The Beyond Broadway Experience is such an incredible and full-on experience,” said Joseph. “We have under two weeks to learn a full musical then do three performances at a beautiful theatre. It is a semi-professional company with the production team all being professionals in the industry. It is honestly the best two weeks of the year.

“I first started in Edinburgh in 2023 and I have done every single production with them since. BBEXP branched out to Aberdeen in 2024 to perform Cats both last year and this year. I played Skimbleshanks both times and had an absolute blast. The cast are always so welcoming and treat everyone respectfully.”

Joseph has just enrolled at the world-renowned Italia Conti stage school in Guildford. After starring in the BBEXP production of Cats he was awarded a Broadway Dreams scholarship for a week-long mentorship programme in Germany, learning alongside fellow young performers from some of the best-known Broadway talent.

“I had the most incredible time,” he added. “It was absolutely insane meeting and working with the team. I loved every minute of it. They really took us out of our comfort zones and pushed us to the limit but it was only because they knew we could do it. During the week, we learned all kinds of songs and dances and, on the last day, we performed a showcase at the theatre. I gained so much confidence in my ability in that short period of time and had the most amazing time.”
