A busy Edinburgh road near a high school has been taped off by police on Tuesday afternoon.

It is understood the incident took place at around 3.15pm at South Gyle Access near Forrester High School with a large police presence at the scene.

The exact nature of the incident is unknown at this time, however the road has been locked down with police tape erected. Lothian Buses have also put diversions in place, with a number of services affected.

One concerned passer-by told Edinburgh Live: “The road is blocked right from the bottom end where the tram and railway go over the top.

“There aren’t any ambulances here just now, only police.”

A statement from Edinburgh Travel News on X reads: “South Gyle Access is closed both ways at Bankhead Drive due to an RTC. Lothian Bus diversions are in place now.”

Lothian Buses added: “Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve South Gyle Access, South Gyle Broadway, South Gyle Crescent and Redheughs Avenue and are instead diverted via Bankhead Drive, Hermiston Gait, Lochside Avenue, Station Park and Lochside Crescent in both directions until further notice.”

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
