Five community groups from across Rutherglen and Cambuslang have secured grant aid towards a host of projects.

The Cambuslang and Rutherglen Area Committee at South Lanarkshire Council agreed the move to support the organisations at their meeting on Wednesday, October 8.

The aim is to fund activities and projects which bring locals together to enjoy educational, leisure, recreational and community activities.

■ Fernhill Communities Together were granted £330 for equipment and administration costs

■Fernhill Kids’ Playscheme in Rutherglen received £410 for entrance fees and equipment

■Enable (Rutherglen District Branch) were given £920 for transport costs and entrance fees

■2nd Cambuslang Girls’ Brigade were granted £420 for entrance fees and materials

■ and Upstairs Kids’ Klub in Cambuslang were funded £600 for equipment and materials.

Support can be provided for a range of activities including administration and publicity costs, purchase of equipment and materials, annual outings and entrance fees, start-up costs and special events.

At the start of the financial year, the total allocated for community grants in this area was £25,750 – deducting previous grants of £4390 and those approved at the meeting, the remaining balance is £18,680.
