Heavyweight contender Agit Kabayel will have a homecoming fight on January 10, as he returns to Oberhausen, Germany, for a bout against an opponent to be named.
The 33-year-old Kabayel hasn’t fought in his home country since his 2023 win over Agron Smakici, with his last three bouts all coming in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as he’s scored impressive and fan-pleasing wins over Arslanbek Makhmudov, Frank Sanchez, and Zhilei Zhang, all by stoppage.
Kabayel has the WBC’s interim title, but has not really been present in discussions about what comes next for undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk. Kabayel (26-0, 18 KO) is also a pretty soft-spoken professional, and doesn’t spend much time in the headlines calling out others, so instead he’ll stay busy and look to hold his spot in line, wherever that spot really is at this stage.
If Kabayel can win at home, bigger fights — without knowing what this one will be, of course — should be there later in 2026.
