A schedule rotation will bring Argentine racing to Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo this Thursday, where a modest 11-race card is set to unfold, headlined by the Handicap Domingo E. Pascual, run in memory of the late and beloved trainer.
The feature, contested over 1400 meters on dirt and open to 4-year-olds and up, offers a 7,500,000-peso purse to the winner—an objective that Emmspacial Boy (Emmanuel) will aim to achieve despite having to shoulder a demanding top weight of 62 kilos.
Trained by Roberto Caroprese, the Stud Adriancito representative is trying to get his career back on track and earn a return to the stakes ranks, where he has already proven his quality on several occasions, including at the graded level. He took a step in the right direction last time out with a convincing score in the Handicap Mangangá, run over the same course and distance, albeit while carrying 60 kilos.
Beyond the weight, there are other challenges awaiting the dark bay, notably the improving Ever Beach (Treasure Beach), who has been finding consistency as he matures mentally. The Correas family runner has won two of his last three starts, most recently by four lengths over Exultant (Vagabundo Inc) in a sharp 1:22.35. Should his progress continue, he will be a threat from the outset.
Another horse in top form is Approval Cat (Endorsement, 57), who has finished runner-up in three straight starts, all at higher levels. He was second to Giant Rimout (Remote) in the Clásico Juan C. Etchechoury, then two lengths behind Quebracho Joy (Fortify), and most recently missed by a head to Flying to the Sky (Señor Candy) in the Handicap APHARA. His turn to shine could come any day now.
Seasoned campaigners El Gazpacho (Bodemeister, 56) and El Despertar (Il Campione, 56.5) add depth to the field, while Buen Curuzucuateño (Buen Verso, 56) will also be in the mix, boasting a résumé that makes him worthy of respect.
