Garmin has officially introduced its newest aviation smartwatches, the D2 Air X15 and D2 Mach 2 — bringing upgraded avionics, voice commands, and advanced weather and mapping (Mach 2 only) features to pilots’ wrists. Both models blend Garmin’s aviation toolset with the latest smartwatch, health, and fitness innovations found in their mainstream counterparts. The D2 Air X15

The D2 Air X15 arrives exactly as leaked last month, confirming it’s built on the Venu 4 (45 mm) platform with Garmin’s full aviation suite layered on top. Hardware and software are virtually identical to the Venu 4,  including its AMOLED display, multi-band GNSS, Garmin Fitness Coach, and advanced sleep metrics, but battery life drops slightly due to continuous aviation functions running in the background.

Key aviation additions include:

  • Avionics connectivity: When paired with Garmin Pilot and compatible avionics, pilots can view flight data and navigation information directly on the wrist.
  • Aviation Morning Report: See the day’s weather outlook and airport field conditions alongside a personalized health summary.
  • Voice commands: Pilots can say “Start Fly activity” or “Show me the METAR” to initiate flight tracking or view weather instantly.
  • Voice notes: Record geo-referenced memos for later playback in Garmin Connect.
  • LED flashlight: Multiple white and red light modes assist during night operations.
  • PlaneSync compatibility: View remote aircraft status — including fuel, electrical, database, and location details — from anywhere with LTE coverage.

The 45 mm D2 Air X15 features a stainless steel or slate metal bezel with a black silicone band, Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and up to 10 days of battery life in smartwatch mode. It retails for $649.99.

The D2 Mach 2

Meanwhile, the new D2 Mach 2 is effectively a Fenix 8-class aviation watch, released roughly one year after the Fenix 8 debuted. It retains the same build and high-end hardware software, including AMOLED display under sapphire glass, leakproof buttons, titanium bezels, and  maps, while introducing the aviation functionality.

Highlights include:

  • Detailed aviation maps: Color-coded airspace, topography, VORs, intersections, and customizable aircraft icons.
  • Live breadcrumb trail: Displays flight path and runway orientation directly on the watch.
  • Personal minimums monitoring: Configure weather thresholds for visibility, crosswinds, and ceilings; the watch alerts pilots when a selected airport’s METAR exceeds those limits.
  • Recreational diving support: New leakproof buttons and 40 m rating enable single-gas scuba diving with a no-fly timer post-dive.

The D2 Mach 2 is available in two sizes and materials:

  • 47 mm: Titanium bezel, polymer case, Oxford brown leather band.
  • 51 mm: Carbon gray DLC titanium bezel, vented titanium bracelet.

Both come with a QuickFit Pilot blue/black silicone band and offer up to 26 days of battery life. Pricing starts at $1,349.99 (47 mm) and $1,499.99 (51 mm).

Garmin’s Aviation Smartwatch Lineup Evolves

In essence, these two new models mirror Garmin’s mainstream lineup: D2 Air X15 ≈ Venu 4, and D2 Mach 2 ≈ Fenix 8. Both deliver the same health, fitness, and design DNA, but replace outdoor or tactical tools with aviation-specific features like avionics integration, flight planning, and METAR-driven visuals.

The D2 Mach 2’s release comes roughly a year after the Fenix 8, while the Air X15 arrives just weeks after the Venu 4.
