Kate Garraway has been backed by her Good Morning Britain colleague Rob Rinder following a harsh jibe on The Celebrity Traitors.

The presenter is among the stars including Sir Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie, Tom Daley, Joe Marler, Cat Burns and Alan Carr participating in the BBC murder mystery show.

Claudia Winkleman has gathered 19 celebrities for the ultimate game of trust, betrayal and deception, after the BBC contest captivated the nation with three civilian series broadcast since 2022.

So far, we’ve witnessed some Bafta-worthy moments, from Alan nearly outing himself through laughter, Celia’s infamous fart, to Tom’s side-eye towards Kate.

As the series has progressed, with the Faithfuls experiencing significant losses as more celebrities are killed off and exiled, the gameplay has intensified, reports Wales Online.

In Thursday’s (October 23) episode, which saw Mark Bonnar ousted after a tense roundtable against David Olusoga, Joe Wilkinson murdered and Sir Stephen voted out, the contestants had to nominate themselves in categories such as “most two-faced” and “weakest”.

While Thursday Murder Club actress Celia chose to label herself “two-faced”, it was Kate who was dubbed “weak”.

Secret Traitor Jonathan Ross then made a cutting remark that she was “physically” and “intellectually weak”, adding: “Just generally weak in every single way.”

“The real problem is I agree!” Kate retorted.

However, her GMB co-star Rob Rinder wasn’t standing for it.

Rob fumed on Friday (October 24) morning: “Jonathan Ross described you as, ‘physically weak, intellectually weak,’ watching it on the telly, I like Jonathan Ross, he’s a great man, but I did want to do mild violence to him.”

The conclusion of the most recent episode left Kate facing potential elimination alongside Lucy Beaumont and Nick Mohammed, as it finished on a dramatic cliffhanger with the celebrities returning to the chess board, awaiting to discover if The Traitors, Cat, Alan and Jonathan, were about to “murder” them in person.

Reflecting on shooting that sequence, Kate confessed she was “hanging by a thread”, explaining: “That was literally about 1am, when we all thought we were happily tucked up in bed, we got the letter and went out into the woods, it was freezing cold, there was mist, cloaked figures, it was genuinely terrifying, honestly!”

She continued: “It’s all a bit triggering for me now, but I was the weakest player!”

Kate went on to confess her daughter’s comment to her about her outfits on the show, saying: “All of us in the castle are styling ourselves, hair, makeup, and clothes. Those hats were a mistake! My daughter every time says, ‘What’s with the flump look, mum?’ It was cold!”

Ahead of taking part in the series, Kate shared: “I’m a massive fan of the show and I’ve watched all the series. When I knew I was taking part I started to watch it all again and I saw it with a different eye. Then I started to get pretty nervous as it can get really brutal at the Round Table can’t it, so I just decided not to over analyse and go for it.

“Also, I love Claudia and have worked with her on other projects, so just know she will have me in fits of giggles and be so supportive of everyone – so that should get us through.

“I’ve been through so many challenges over the last five years, I’ve faced a lot of actual life and death moments, and I’ve done a lot of crying over all that’s happened to our family. It’s all been so serious. So, this feels like a chance to have fun and make a little mischief playing in what I genuinely believe is the best game on TV.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX. The Celebrity Traitors returns on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
