Filming for a new TV show has continued across Greater Manchester this week, with a mob of football fans now getting involved in new scenes.
For more than a month now, production has been taking place across the city-region on Russell T Davies’ upcoming Channel 4 series Tip Toe. The forthcoming show will star two Manchester neighbours who have lived next door to each other for 15 years.
Davies, who is behind Queer as Folk and It’s A Sin, has described the show as ‘an urgent tale that brings a spotlight to bear on the prejudices which are creeping back into our lives’.
Taking on the lead role of neighbours Leo and Clive will be Alan Cumming, who currently hosts the American version of The Traitors, and David Morrissey, who is known for his roles in Sherwood, Daddy Issues and The Walking Dead.

Cumming, a popular theatre and Hollywood star, has also appeared in the likes of Eyes Wide Shut, Spy Kids, and The Good Wife. He will also appear in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday movie, set to reprise his role of Nightcrawler from X-Men movie X2.
Tip Toe, which will also star the likes of Denise Welch, Charlie Cundou and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, has already filmed a large proportion of scenes within Manchester’s Gay Village. Earlier this month, Cumming and Morrissey were photographed as they filmed an argument in the street.

On Thursday (October 23), filming for the series continued but this time moved over to a residential street in Salford where scenes featured a large number of extras doubling up as football fans.
The fans were led by Morrissey’s character Clive, who was dressed in a football top sporting a 20 Cents logo, as they chanted and shouted towards Cumming’s character.
Production also featured two extras as football fans holding Cumming away from the crowd of supporters. Another fan was seen climbing up a lamppost.

Davies and producer Phil Collinson, who worked on Coronation Street for three years from 2010 to 2013, was also seen on set behind the camera. Set to be released next year, the series will consist of five episodes.
It has been produced by Manchester-based studio Quay Street Productions, who have previously worked on shows including After The Flood and The Stolen Girl. It will be executive produced by Nicola Schindler and directed by Peter Hoar, who both previously also worked on It’s A Sin alongside Davies.

Speaking about the show, Russell Davies said: “It’s my honour to combine my old home, Channel 4, with my second home, Canal Street. This is a show I had to write because the world is getting stranger, tougher and darker, and frankly, the fight is on.”
Cumming added of his involvement: “The best things in life are worth waiting for, and the best people. Russell T Davies and I have been trying to work together for over 20 years.

“Now, not only are we working together but doing so with one of my dearest, oldest friends, Dave Morrissey, and in a piece of work I think is so brilliant and prescient and necessary. I don’t say this lightly, but this is truly an honour.”
David Morrissey said: “I’m delighted to be working with Russell again, and also to be working with Alan who has been a great friend of mine for over 40 years but we’ve never had the chance to work together. It’s a privilege to be with them both on this astonishing piece of work.”
