Police have been searching a house in Halewood today after armed police descended on the area last night. This afternoon, the ECHO saw police officers searching a property on Lichfield Road. It followed reports of armed police arriving in the area last night.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said that, after a search of the property, four people have been arrested on drug offences. They added that class A drugs have been recovered from the house.

A 35-year-old man from Halewood, a 25-year-old man from Halewood, a 29-year-old man from Hale Village and a 44-year-old man from Halewood were all arrested on suspicion of possession to supply Class A drugs with intent to supply.

They have been taken to police stations across Merseyside, where they will be interviewed by detectives.

Three police Matrix vans were parked on Lichfield Road along with one police car, with officers entering and exiting the property wearing gloves. Several residents said police had been there since last night but nobody knew why.

One woman said: “I don’t know what happened; I was seeing John Bishop last night and then I’ve been in and out this morning.”

The ECHO was told late last night by Merseyside Police that officers were conducting an “ongoing planned police operation” in Halewood as well.

The ECHO received reports last night that armed police had arrived on St Ives Way, Orkell Drive and Church Road, around a seven-minute drive from Lichfield Road.

One person told us: “There’s a huge armed police presence in Halewood Village by the roundabout on Okell Drive/Church Road with the helicopter out and masses of police. Buses are being diverted too.”

A woman and her husband walking on Okell Drive this afternoon said they had seen armed police there last night. She said: “They were all lined up by the bus stop.

“My son was gaming and saw them. He thought they might close the road off, but they didn’t.”

Another man on Okell Drive said: “There was a police helicopter hovering above the field on St Ives Way this morning.”
