As the beating heart of Coronation Street, the Rovers Return has been the setting for secret trysts and clandestine discussions.
From Bet Lynch yelling: “You’re poison, Tanya” to Elsie Tanner telling Ivy Tilsley she’s a ‘nasty, narrow-minded old bag’, it’s also been the scene for some almighty showdowns.
As well as the legendary characters that graced its bar, from Elsie Tanner to Bet Lynch, the pub has also played host to famous guests such as Sir Cliff Richard and Cheryl Cole.

But perhaps none were so famous as Alfred Hitchcock.
The Master of Suspense visited the Corrie set and popped his head through the doors of the Rovers in June 1964.
He was at Granada Television studios, in Manchester, to visit his friend Sidney Bernstein.
He had worked with Hitchcock on his 1948 picture ‘Rope’ and the following year on ‘Under Capricorn’.
Bernstein went on to become a co-founder of Granada Television.

Unfortunately it was a few years too early for the legendary director to be able to tuck into one of Betty’s hot pots.
But he did enjoy a pint of mild with a prop skull, which seems far more his style.
