A new food venue will be taking over a building which once housed a “Liverpool great”. The Italian Club Fish on Bold Street closed its doors with “immediate effect” on January 13 with a public statement on Instagram.

The seafood restaurant had been a fixture at the top of Bold Street for over a decade. The name lives on with the restaurant’s head chef, Marco Muscedere, and manager Tom Basham launching a stall at the Duke Street Food and Drink Market in March.

Since then, the Bold Street site has remained empty. However, it was announced last night that another food venue would be moving in.

Spice Thai describes itself as “Liverpool first Thai street food venue” and already has locations on Castle Street and in the Baltic Market.

Its third venue will be in the old Italian Club Fish building. In an Instagram post, the business shared a picture of the Spice Thai signage on the site and said: “Get ready Liverpool!

“Bold Street is about to get spicier.

“We’re so, so excited to announce that we are in the process of renovating the space and we are looking to open soon on Bold Street.

“We absolutely can’t wait to welcome you all to our new venue soon.

“Lots of love, Spice Thai team.”

The news was welcomed by many in the comments section. Michelle Dean said: “I will definitely pop in.” Kirstey Achterberg said: “I’m so excited.” The Bagelry, which is located on nearby Nelson Street, added: “This is great news.”

Its neighbours will be another Asian food venue. Mee Japanese & Thai Street Food opened on the corner of Bold Street and Berry Street earlier this year.

The announcement about the closure of The Italian Club Fish was met with much sadness by customers earlier this year.

In the comments section of the Instagram post, Porkyaskew wrote: “So so gutted to hear this news you deserve much better and you have been a pillar of Liverpool’s food culture for so long. Sending lots of Love and Thanks for all your Passion and hard work.”

Bwhittydoll said: “Omg my favourite restaurant ever, dined there for many years celebrating lots of special occasions, you will be missed. David, Barbara & Tom.”

Etsurestaurant added: “Beyond gutted for you guys! Had some truly amazing meals in your place and it’s so sad you will be no more. Liverpool lost a great today.

“I hope you’re all ok and wish you all the very best for the future.” Cwsouthern commented: “Absolutely gutted. One of the best places in town. Best wishes to all of you.”
