Emma Wood, 46, was on a boat trip with her loved ones when she suddenly collapsed

A cherished mother-of-four from Wales has tragically passed away whilst marking her son’s 13th birthday during a family getaway in Spain. Emma Wood, 46, from Treherbert in Rhondda, Wales, was enjoying a boat excursion with her family last Sunday (October 19) when she unexpectedly collapsed.
Despite frantic attempts to resuscitate her, Ms Wood could not be saved. The family had journeyed 1,200 miles from Wales to the Costa del Sol to mark her son becoming a teenager.
Ms Wood is survived by four children, whom her family say she “absolutely idolised” and were her “greatest joy”, reports the Mirror. She is being remembered as a “devoted mother, daughter, and friend, always ready to help anyone in need”.
Family friend Amanda Jayne broke the news on behalf of Ms Wood’s mother Dianne Astley. She described her as “the kindest soul, beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside”.
“The family ask for time to come to terms with this tragedy,” Ms Jayne said. “Emma, you are so loved by so many [and] taken far too soon. Rest in eternal peace, beautiful girl.”
Ms Wood’s body was transported to a hospital on the Costa del Sol and an inquest into her death is anticipated to open in Pontypridd at a later date.
Representatives from the British Embassy in Spain are assisting her family and are liaising with the Spanish authorities following the tragedy.
A Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British national who died in Spain, and are in contact with the local authorities.”
