Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has confirmed that Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford missed the FA Cup semi-final with a hamstring injury and could be facing ‘some weeks’ on the sidelines.
The on-loan United man was a surprise omission from the squad against Crystal Palace, with Ollie Watkins named in the central striker role. It was confirmed pre-match that he had missed out due to injury.
The game saw Villa fall to a 3-0 loss with Eberichi Eze and Ismaila Sarr (2) on the scoresheet for Palace as they booked their place in the FA Cup final. The Eagles will face either Manchester City or Nottingham Forest who play in the second semi-final tomorrow (Sunday).
Speaking after the game, Emery gave an update on Rashford and why he was missing.
“He is injured,” The Villa boss confirmed in his post-match press conference. “He got injured this week. It is his hamstring.
“We are going to test him each match to see how he is progressing. Probably some weeks that he can be not available.”
Rashford moved on loan to Villa from United late in the January transfer window and has had an impact at Villa Park. In his 17 appearances for the club he has scored four goals and provided six assists.
If the forward is indeed out for the next few weeks, then it could mean the possibility of him missing the final games of the season. Villa take on Fulham at Villa Park next week before Premier League games against Bournemouth (A) and Tottenham (H).
The final game of the campaign sees them travel to Old Trafford to take on United. It’s a game that Rashford would have missed anyway due to being ineligible to face his parent club.
