A woman was allegedly “punched in the face” during a sickening “racist attack” at a takeaway in Edinburgh. The woman was reportedly set upon following a disgusting racist tirade on staff in the city centre last week.
The incident occurred on Friday, October 24 when chaos erupted for a woman and her friend at Pepe’s Piri Piri on Lothian Road.
It all happened when, at around 9.30pm, a man walked into the takeaway and reportedly started being racially abusive towards workers after he asked for a specific item that he was told they didn’t serve.
Shocking footage shared with Edinburgh Live captures the moment the man reportedly went mad after demanding a cheeseburger in the chicken restaurant.
The woman stepped in to confront him, after which he is said to have threatened her, before pouring her drink over head and punching her in the face.
The man is said to have told her: “Don’t think because you’re a girl I won’t hit you.”
Scenes of carnage, seen by Edinburgh Live, unfolded inside the restaurant, and during the commotion, somebody is heard shouting “call the police”.
The man can be seen trying to go for a member of staff before he is bundled out of the door and on to the street.
It is believed the woman was taken to hospital following the ordeal.
Cops say they are investigating what happened, while a spokesperson for Pepe’s confirmed they were also aware of the unsettling incident, and are “dealing” with the matter.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.30pm on Friday, 24 October 2025, officers responded to a report of a racial abuse and an assault on Lothian Road, Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing.”
A spokesperson for Pepe’s said: “We are aware of the incident which occurred at Pepe’s Lothian Road, Edinburgh on Friday 24 October evening.
“The person involved was escorted from the store. The police were called at the time, who are now dealing with this matter.”
