GTA developers faced a wave of layoffs. The British union Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) reported that Rockstar Games parted ways with approximately 30-40 employees in the UK and Canada.

Rockstar Games laid off 30-40 GTA VI developers

In a conversation with Bloomberg, a union representative stated that all those laid off were activists: some were members of the IWGB, while others suggested forming a union within Rockstar Games. The company reportedly disapproved of all this and decided to hinder union organization through layoffs.

“Rockstar Games just committed one of the most egregious and ruthless acts of union suppression in the history of the gaming industry,” claimed the IWGB.

Take-Two Interactive—the parent company of Rockstar Games—confirmed the layoffs to Bloomberg but cited a different reason. According to them, the cause was “gross misconduct and nothing more.” They did not provide details on the incident.

Rockstar Games is currently finishing the development of GTA VI. The game is scheduled for release on May 26, 2026.
