Back in my day, this was commonplace for us!
The weather has been a bit ropey this week with the wind and rain; so much so that, not for the first time, my mind started thinking about postponements — yet when I was a lad, despite bad weather, football just got on with it.
It’s my guess that quite a few out there can well remember the era when, even when the goalmouths were one huge pool of water and covered in ‘clabber’ — a mixture of muck and water to the uneducated — the match went ahead regardless.
