Leeds United have been linked with a move to sign Coventry City star Haji Wright this January, but there is another Championship attacker that would be much better suited.

United are going to have to have irons in the fire by the time the January window rolls around. The opportunity to stay up looks there for the taking under Daniel Farke.

However, the boss has already reiterated how he would have liked another attacker during the summer. Late moves failed to materialise, leaving Leeds short in the final third.

Leeds United ‘interested’ in signing Coventry City star Haji Wright

As January draws nearer, reports are linking United with moves for attackers. Leeds United News claimed that the Whites are looking at Coventry City star Haji Wright.

The Sky Blues are flying high at the top of the Championship table and are blowing away opposition with their goalscoring this season. Frank Lampard’s side is spearheaded by Wright, who is already closing in on double figures for goals.

Even though Leeds are keen on the USMNT forward, it is stressed that a deal could be difficult to negotiate. Coventry’s current position as the best side in the Championship means they won’t be willing to part ways cheaply, if at all.

Norwich City man and Wright’s compatriot Josh Sargent is also claimed to be a player of interest to Leeds too.

Wright would be an improvement to our current striker options without doubt. His goalscoring record and xG performance in the Championship proves he’s good enough for the Premier League. However, he wouldn’t be that great of an improvement for the price you’d have to pay to get him out of table-topping Coventry.

If Leeds are looking to the Championship for a solution in January, Leicester City star Abdul Fatawu is the only player that they should be looking at.

Firstly, Leeds need a right-winger more than they need a striker. In particular, someone who can beat a man and cut inside like Noah Okafor is needed, so the left-footed, skilful Fatawu could be perfect. His habit of landing screamers for Leicester since he joined is something Leeds are crying out for on the right.

Fatawu wiped the floor with Georginio Rutter in the 23/24 season for ‘big chances created’. The Foxes winger created 32 compared to Rutter’s 22. He’s creative enough to help Leeds on that front. Then, he can also open the game up in an instant with his ability to score from anywhere.

Again, prising him out of Leicester mid-season is a tall order. But, if anyone is to be targeted from the EFL, Fatawu would be so much more of an improvement than Wright would be.
