There’s something ever-so enjoyable about having a rummage through the city and uncovering a twinkling hidden gem, isn’t there? A new sparkly little spot to add to your lengthening list of ‘I know a little place’ places. And guess what? We’ve done exactly that, and now we’re going to let you in on the secret, too. Because we’re nice like that.

I’m sure you’re all well aware that London is bursting at the seams with boozers. The city has got its fair share of wine bars, too. But what isn’t quite so easy to come by in the capital is an amalgamation of the two. In fact, there’s only one wine pub in London. And that, my friends, is Godet.

London’s first wine pub

Having plonked itself down on Essex Road in Islington last year, Godet has been redefining the concept of the humble pub. It’s an intimate and cosy spot that puts fantastic wine in the spot light, serving up a list that goes well beyond the standard house red or white. But what’s particularly exciting about this wine-derful watering hole is the fact that it’s recently joined forces with one of London’s top chefs for a delicious year-long residency.

Godet has just partnered up with the much-loved Ling Ling’s, who will be bringing its mouthwatering menu of Chinese and pan-Asian fare to the pub for the next twelve months. Ling Ling’s is headed up by Jenny Phung, who is certainly no stranger to a residency, having previously set up shop inside the likes of The Bluecoats in Tottenham and Bambi in London Fields.

Forget peanuts and pork scratchings, because Ling Ling’s is well and truly levelling up London’s bar snack offering. Think gochujang cauliflower, pork and water chestnut wontons, and ‘glass skin chicken’. The food is made for sharing (and unbelievably delicious), so order an array of dishes, and dig in with your pals.

And whilst you’re in the area, you may as well explore the neighbourhood. It has just been named one of the UK’s best places to live, after all. So it must be doing something right, hey?

You’ll find Godet at 382 Essex Road, N1 3PF. Find out more and plan your visit here.
