2’ Liverpool 0-0 Real Madrid

In contrast to Vinicius, fellow Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has generally had a difficult time so far in his meetings with Liverpool through his career.

Last season’s trip to Anfield in the Champions League league stages was one of the low points of Mbappe’s difficult first months at Madrid — with the Frenchman’s penalty saved by Caoimhin Kelleher arguably the key moment in the home team’s 2-0 victory.

Things have turned around quite a lot since then, and Mbappe arrives tonight with everything going his way. Last Friday he picked up the Golden Boot award for Europe’s top scorer last season (31 La Liga goals).

The Frenchman already looks well set to retain that award, having scored 13 goals in the first 11 La Liga games, while he has five in his first three in the Champions League. Stopping Mbappe looks crucial for Liverpool to have any chance tonight, but it will not be easy.
