Edinburgh-bound trains are subject to disruption on Sunday afternoon due to a signalling fault on a major line.

The fault between Haymarket and Linlithgow at around 12pm has resulted in services being delayed or altered.

The issue has been detected on one of the main Edinburgh-Glasgow lines, on which ScotRail Express services between Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Queen Street travel.

Trains bound for Stirling and Dunblane also use the line and stop at Linlithgow, as well as services en route to Perth for Inverness, which do not.

Engineers are on site working to resolve the issue and restore services to normal.

ScotRail announced the disruption on social media at around 12.10pm, writing: “Due to a signal fault between Haymarket and Linlithgow, services here are subject to delay and alteration.

“Teams are working to fix the problem as quickly as they can, once we have more details, we will provide a further update.”
