A band from North Wales have rallied their entire community to release a Christmas single in support of a Liverpool neurosciences hospital that saved their friend’s life.

Idle Lies were inspired to record the track after The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust cared for their friend Daniel Parsonage, from Connah’s Quay, who suffered a life-threatening brain haemorrhage last summer.

Dan is still recovering, but the band wanted to show their thanks for the care he received. They have released a Christmas single, with every penny raised going to The Walton Centre Charity.

Sam Leonard, songwriter and guitarist, said: “After speaking with Dan’s family, we wanted to do something to help The Walton Centre for the amazing care they gave him. He wouldn’t be here with us this Christmas without them.

“The support from the community has been incredible, with local schools, businesses, and people who have their own connection to the hospital all getting behind us.”

The single, Next Christmas You’ll Be Home, was recorded at Liverpool’s Motor Museum studio, famous for hosting acts including Oasis, The 1975 and Jake Bugg.

Alongside the band’s lead vocalist Ewan Smith from Wrexham, the track features vocals from pupils at Holy Name Catholic Primary School in Fazakerley.

Madeleine Fletcher, Head of Fundraising at The Walton Centre Charity, said: “What Idle Lies have done is nothing short of incredible. We are blown away by the support, not just in North Wales, but here in Merseyside too. We are extremely grateful to be the chosen charity and this will make a real difference to our staff and patients.”

Dan collapsed back in July while preparing to support a performance by students from Urban Fusion, the street dance group he teaches. The specialist team at The Walton Centre carried out two urgent operations to control the bleed and ultimately save his life.

Support for the single has also come from local politicians. Jack Sargeant, Member of the Senedd for Alyn and Deeside, said: “Next Christmas You’ll Be Home tells an inspirational story of friendship and courage. Daniel’s friends are showing the power of community. I encourage everyone to buy the song and share it widely.”

Damien Mathews from Holy Name Primary School added: “Our students had an unforgettable experience working with such talented musicians and contributing to a project that spreads joy and hope. It reminded us all of the true spirit of Christmas — community, compassion and creativity.”

The single Next Christmas You’ll Be Home is available to pre-order now, with proceeds going to The Walton Centre Charity.
