Agenda focused on food safety, hygienic washing, and sustainable technology
The program will address key topics including food safety, efficiency in postharvest washing, and sustainable technologies to preserve fruit and vegetables.

After attendee reception at 10:00 and opening remarks at 10:45, nutritionist and pharmacist Ana Molina will kick off the presentations with “You are what you communicate: nutritional and health benefits of fruit and vegetables.” Her talk will focus on the importance of these foods in the diet and on the need to communicate their benefits clearly in order to encourage responsible consumption.

At 11:30, Martin Mottura, researcher in Citrosol’s Postharvest Department, will present “Food safety: risks associated with postharvest washing processes.” He will analyze microbiological hazards related to the use of water during washing and share the recommendations of the European Food Safety Authority on how proper water management can mitigate these risks.

At 12:00, Eva Petri, researcher at the National Center for Food Technology and Safety, will present “Peracetic acid Citrocide as an effective and sustainable alternative for safe washing in fourth range.” She will show how this disinfectant is becoming a viable replacement for chlorine based compounds, improving both food safety and environmental sustainability when washing minimally processed products.

After a coffee and networking break at 12:30, Maria Reyes, technical and commercial representative for Citrosol in the Almeria area, will present “Citrocide System: reducing losses and claims through hygienic washing.” She will highlight how the Citrocide technology has significantly reduced postharvest decay and customer claims in crops such as tomatoes and peppers, improving the quality and safety of horticultural exports.

The final presentation at 13:30 will be delivered by Rebeca Ramos, head of Biotechnology and Bioprocesses at Tecnova. Her talk, “Sustainable innovation in disinfection and preservation: keys to extending the life of fresh produce,” will focus on new technological strategies that increase durability and quality of fresh foods in a sustainable way.

The event will conclude at 14:00 with a cocktail and networking session to encourage exchange of experiences and promote collaboration between companies, research centers and industry stakeholders.
