Birmingham’s Old Joint Stock Theatre has revealed the cast of its first Christmas musical, It’s a Wonderful Knife: A Christmas Dundee.
This “chaotic, comedic and utterly unique production” mashes It’s a Wonderful Life with the Australian adventure film Crocodile Dundee which still holds the record for the most-watched film on the BBC on Christmas Day, with 21 million viewers.
Sutton Coldfield actor Paul Westwood will play Paul Hogan. Westwood was awkward, dull-witted Merryweather in Hapgood by Tom Stoppard at Birmingham Rep in 2008.
Oliver Cartwright will take the role of Burt the crocodile, Thea Jo Wolfe will be Kylie Minogue and others, Will Usherwood-Bliss will play Hugh Jackman and others and Tom Kiteley will take the roles of Arnold Schwarzenegger and others.
Director is Lilly Butcher. Book and lyrics are by James Edge, while Adam Gerber is composer. Producer is Emily Susanne Lloyd, Maddy Lygo is musical director and choreographer is William Spencer. George P Martin is set and costume designer.
It’s a Wonderful Knife: A Christmas Dundee will run at the Old Joint Stock from Wednesday 3 until Tuesday 30 December.
