A man was seriously injured after he confronted would-be masked thieves on bikes in the back garden of his home.
Detectives in Whitefield, Bury, have launched a major investigation and are now appealing for anyone with information or footage to get in touch.
Four youths who were riding electric Suron bikes are being hunted in connection with the incident, which happened in the early hours of Friday, November 7, on Hilltop Grove in Whitefield.
The Manchester Evening News understands a family were woken by noises in the back garden and saw the door of a garage had been ripped open. The four were in the garden.
The man, aged 59, went outside to confront them, but was attacked as he did so.

It’s understood he tried to pull one of the would-be thieves off one of the bikes, but was dragged along the floor before they escaped empty-handed.
The man was taken to hospital, but is now recovering. He suffered serious injuries to one of his hands, a broken toe and serious abrasions caused by being dragged. Police described his injuries as ‘significant’.
It’s understood the four were on two Suron bikes, with one riding pillion on each one.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone with CCTV or Ring doorbell footage to come forward.
In a statement on social media, GMP Bury said: “Greater Manchester Police are investigating an incident that occurred on Hilltop Grove, Whitefield, between 3am and 3.20am on Friday November 7 where four males wearing Balaclavas and riding Suron bikes have attempted to break into a garage.
“The males were disturbed and made off.
“During this incident a member of the public has received significant injuries.
“Police are requesting anybody who may have witnessed these males or have CCTV, Ring door bell footage of them arriving or leaving the area to contact Bury Neighbourhood Crime Team DC Potter on 0161 8568222 or email 19123@gmp.police.uk quoting log reference 317 07112025.”
