A “must-try” Indian restaurant loved so much that people will willingly wait for hours to get a table is coming to East London soon. Hoppers already serves up delicious South Indian cuisine in Soho, Marylebone and King’s Cross.

Now, the Michelin-star restaurant has announced that it is planning to open a new venue in Shoreditch. Hoppers serves up dosas, rice, roast, kothu and, of course, its inspiration – bowl-shaped pancakes called Hoppers. The new spot will be focusing on cuisine from the lesser-known regions of South India.

Diners can expect to see fiery curries form Chettinad, street food from Madurai and dosas from Bangalore on the menu. Co-founder Karan Gokani said: “Shoreditch lets us celebrate the lesser-known regions of South India while connecting the dots between Sri Lanka and India in a way that feels fresh, vibrant and deeply personal.”

At the Soho venue, Hoppers customers will queue for hours to get a table using the restaurants virtual queuing system for walk-ins. But even, famed food critic Jay Rayner thinks that this is “worth the wait.”

In his review of Hoppers he said: “The point is I did queue for Hoppers, albeit in a very civilised manner, over an espresso with a shot of Amaretto in it at Bar Italia across the road. I’m glad I did.”

He added: “The secret weapon here, other than the extremely good-value food – and the food is marvellous – is the enthusiastic staff in their logoed orange polo shirts. They seem to be on a gentle and genuine mission to educate.”

This will be the first time Hoppers has launched a new venue since 2020. Hoppers will be opening up their new East London site in Shoreditch’s iconic Tea Building in early 2026. It will be replacing the long-standing Shoreditch institution of Lyle’s which closed its doors back in May.
