Plans for 1,200 homes, centered around the redevelopment of the former police headquarters building – Chester House – in Stretford have been unveiled.
The ambitious scheme is a joint venture between Trafford council, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and the Far East Consortium.
It also includes a 250-bed hotel and green public spaces. Town hall bosses are now inviting the public to have their say on the plans, which include 25 per cent affordable housing.

It already has easy access to the Trafford Bar tram stop – 10 minutes from Manchester city centre and with easy access to Salford, Manchester Airport and surrounding areas.
Planners are aiming to tap into Trafford’s rich history with the borough’s heritage ‘at the heart of the development’.

“Through thoughtful design and conservation, this project will pay tribute to the site’s past while creating a legacy for generations to come,” the consortium says on its website.
This includes Ellis Llwys Jones Hall – once the home to women studying deaf education at Manchester University.
Historic gateposts from the former blind school will be preserved in the new public realm.
