It’s understood the suspect used accelerants thrown towards the front of the property before the fire erupted. No injuries were reported in the incident.

One Stout Street resident said: “I didn’t see anything but I heard it. What are they thinking? With kids around especially. It’s awful, just stupid. Anything could have happened, it could’ve been ten times worse.”Another local added: “I was walking my children to nursery and just saw the police there. Loads of people making noise. No idea where it happened, my dad said he heard a bang.

“Disgusting though, doing it in a residential area. It’s bad enough when it’s just adults around but kids as well. What if something had happened to them? I’m honestly, sick of it. Disgusting.

“All I know is loads of people were screaming about something this morning and some kids were crying.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed an investigation has been launched and urged any witnesses to come forward. It is thought to have been a ‘targeted attack’.
