A man has been arrested after a pensioner was left fighting for her life in a hit-and-run.

The woman, said to be in her 70s, was walking along Wentworth Road in Harborne, around 10.15pm on Tuesday (Nov 4), when she was struck by a car which then left the scene.

A week later and the victim remains in hospital in a critical condition.

West Midlands Police arrested a 39-year-old on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, possession of a knife and possession of class A drugs and he has now been bailed.

Police believe a red Ford Focus might have been involved and they are appealing to anyone with footage from the area to contact them.

WMP said: “We are appealing for information after a woman in her 70s was seriously injured following a collision in Harborne.

“Just after 10.15pm on Tuesday (4 Nov) the woman was hit by a vehicle on Wentworth Road.

“The vehicle then fled the scene.

“The woman was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries and remains in a critical condition.

“Following enquiries, we arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

“Following a search, a quantity of Class A drugs and a knife were recovered.

“He was further arrested for possession of a knife and possession of class A drugs.

“The man has now been bailed pending further enquiries.

“Anyone with any information, particularly CCTV or dash cam footage from that area of a red Ford Focus which we believe was involved in the collision, is asked to call 101 quoting 5545 of 4 November or email detectives direct at sciu@westmidlands.police.uk.”
