Drivers are being diverted off the A30 after a van overturned in a serious crash.

The road has been closed westbound while police, firefighters and paramedics attend the scene of the crash near Pathfinder Village, just outside Exeter.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the scene at around 5.50pm on Friday, November 14.

One vehicle, a van, was involved in the collision, which a police spokesperson described as ‘serious’.

National Highways has said the A30 is expected to be closed throughout the evening and traffic is being diverted around the closure.

National Highways said: “The A30 in Devon is closed westbound between the A377 near Exeter and the A382 near Whiddon Down following a serious collision involving a vehicle that has overturned and come to rest on its roof. “

“Devon and Cornwall Police are in attendance and are in the process of turning traffic caught within the closure. We advise road users to await until they are instructed to ensure a safe and smooth process.

“Collision investigations will be required and carried out throughout the night. At this time, the closure is expected to remain ongoing for several hours into the night.”

A30 diversion route

  • From the Alphington Interchange, exit and follow Ide Village Road leading onto Tedburn Road.
  • Re-join the A30 at Pathfinder Village.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police, fire and ambulance are dealing with a serious RTC on the A30 near Pathfinder Village.

“We were called to the scene at 5.50pm. The road is currently closed and traffic is being prevented from getting onto the A30. Single vehicle RTC.

“We are asking members of the public to avoid the area if possible. Congestion is extremely high. We would appeal to any witnesses to contact police on 101 with log number 693 of November 14.”
