Mental health charity Change Mental Health will host an open day at its local resource centre in Golspie, The Gatehouse, to show support available for the Sutherland community.

The event will take place on Tuesday, November 25 from 11am to 2pm. It will be available to all, providing an opportunity for the general public, those in the community and other organisations to learn more about Change Mental Health and the vital services it runs across Scotland.

Attendees can explore the service, network with other organisations in the area, and understand how the community can raise awareness and tackle stigma around mental health.

The Gatehouse operates as a resource centre for people affected by poor mental health and mental illness to access vital support in the community, as well as providing outreach support to those across Sutherland.

Located on the grounds of the Lawson Memorial Hospital, The Gatehouse has been running since 1998 – one of the charity’s long-standing services.

Lesley Collins, Highland Resource Centres and Outreach manager at Change Mental Health, said: “It’s good to open the doors to the wider community to explore what we do: ensuring that everyone has access to the support they need, when they need it and in a way which works best for them.

“We have multiple services available in the region and beyond that can support the community with their mental health, but it’s important that we work with the community and other organisations to change attitudes around mental health.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the community to this open day.”

Change Mental Health delivers other services across Highland that the Sutherland community can access, such as Distress Brief Intervention, Suicide Bereavement Support and the Community Link Worker service.

Distress Brief Intervention offers a swift, connected and compassionate response to people experiencing distress, while Suicide Bereavement Support offers free and confidential emotional support to anyone impacted by a suicide.

The Community Link Worker service improves health outcomes for those experiencing stressors in life, available in all GP surgeries across Highland and connects people to relevant support to address their stressors through social prescribing.
