Warrington Wolves recruit, Josh Smith, has given his first interview since joining the club, and has already set out some ambitious goals for the season ahead.

The 24-year-old centre joins the club from Brisbane Tigers in the Queensland Cup, and has played 80 matches in the Australian reserve grades.

Joining on a two-year deal, he will provide healthy squad depth and will compete for a starting role alongside Toby King and Albert Hopoate.

After meeting his new teammates for the first time last week, he is now in pre-season training as he prepares for his first year in Super League.

Commenting on what made him come over to the UK, he said:”I just wanted to challenge myself, that was probably the biggest thing.

“I was playing Queensland Cup and the route to come over to Super League was something that I wanted to look into, and after talking to my family, especially my parents and my little sister, made the decision to come over.

“The opportunity came through talking to Gary [Chambers, Director of Rugby] and Sam [Burgess], and it’s an opportunity that I want to take with both hands and to test myself.”

Smith revealed what his goals are both for himself and the team, with a spot at Old Trafford one of his biggest motivations.

“I think my goal for this year is to crack into the Super League,” he said. “I definitely want to build over the pre-season and start there from Round One and go from there.

“[I’m looking to] kick on here and win some games and get into some Grand Finals and go from there.”

Warrington fans can expect a strong ball runner in Smith, with the centre averaging 182 metres a game in 2025. He surpassed the 200 mark on six occasions, with his highest effort totalling 274 metres.

Asked what Warrington fans can expect of him next year, he said: “I’d probably say I pride myself on my yardage carries. I work really hard on that, just trying to get the boys on the front foot at the start with the quick play the balls and take the pressure off the middles.”
