Sheffield Wednesday have shortlisted Nathan Redmond as a potential free agent target, according to The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday have been given permission from the EFL to sign two free agents.

It comes as a big boost for SWFC, who continue to battle against the odds after administration. Though bringing immediate uncertainty, the 12-point deduction is deemed as a price worth paying to be out of Dejphon Chansiri’s grasp. The supporters’ investment in tickets and the club shop have ensured wages are covered until Christmas too.

Unsurprisingly, several free agents are being considered by the Owls, and a new name to emerge on the radar is Nathan Redmond.

According to The Star, the former Burnley winger is on the Championship club’s shortlist as they weigh up their options. Liam Cooper is due to join, while Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Duncan Watmore have also been considered.

Sheffield Wednesday target Nathan Redmond after Blades rejection

Redmond is no stranger to the Football League and he’s not long been in Sheffield either, having spent time training with Steel City rivals Sheffield United during the summer.

One-time former England attacker Redmond was training with Sheffield United, who didn’t eventually take a punt on the player who had been released by Burnley at the end of last season, having earned promotion to the Premier League with the Clarets.

The Star say that SWFC have been given EFL permission to sign two free agents and that Redmond is now among the current targets.

Nathan Redmond’s career stats so far

The 31-year-old has played for multiple clubs in the Premier League and the Championship, even spending time in Turkey with Besiktas.

But it’s in the Premier League where he spent the bulk of his career. Spending six Premier League seasons with Southampton, Redmond currently has an incredible 276 top flight appearances in his career, with 28 goals and 25 assists along the way.

He also boasts 107 appearances in the Championship with 11 goals and 21 assists, with two Championship promotions to his name as well.

For Sheffield Wednesday and manager Henrik Pedersen, this experience is exactly the kind of experience SWFC need to get themselves back above the drop zone before it’s too late, though fans may have question marks about Redmond’s fitness record.

He managed just two Championship appearances for Burnley last season, with 12 Premier League appearances the season before with Southampton.
