Snow may fall in the Midlands this week as temperatures drop across the UK.

Freezing temperatures and snow blizzards could hit parts of the country as far south as Birmingham in a matter of hours, some forecasters have warned.

Weather maps show wintry conditions will impact several areas, with temperatures plummeting to -10C in some parts of the country.

The Met Office said Wednesday to Friday will be the coldest part of the week with “a significant wind chill” expected, The Mirror reports.

Mr Gundersen, from the Met Office, added: “An area of rain will reach the west of Scotland early on Tuesday morning, with a risk of this turning to snow as it moves inland.

“Whilst there is some uncertainty as to the exact track and extent, a period of snow is likely over high ground, with accumulations of 2-5 cm possible above about 150 metres in elevation, and as much as 5-10 cm above 400 metres.

“This period of snow could bring some disruption to travel and infrastructure across higher parts of Scotland.”

The colder weather front could leave the areas around Birmingham, Manchester, and Stoke-on-Trent covered under the snow.

Temperatures are set to oscillate between -1C and 0C, weather maps have suggested.
