Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised the world in 2020 when they revealed that they would be swapping their royal roles for a life overseas. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who had been married for less than two years at the time of this major decision, left the UK behind and set up home in Montecito, California.
While this may have come as a shock to the system for Harry, it likely came far more naturally to Meghan, who was born and raised in the US and was already familiar to the celebrity scene. As a result, Harry no doubt relied on his wife to lead the way as they grew accustomed to this new life in a star-studded neighbourhood.
However, while Harry and Meghan claim to be as happy as can be in California, a friend of Harry’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, has criticised Meghan’s professional life in the US, and described Harry in a brutal six-word verdict.
In an interview with The New York Times, former Tatler and Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown said: “Harry is not the brightest bulb.”
She explained: “I have never seen anybody in professional life make as many mistakes as Meghan has. And unfortunately, Harry is not the brightest bulb, either.
“So he thought that Meghan would be his great sort of guide in the big, wide world beyond Buckingham Palace, as it were.
“And it turns out that Meghan makes one terrible professional decision after another.”
She went on to say: “And now they are sort of pariahs everywhere, it seems, which is a very difficult situation for them because America was supposed to be the place which paid the bills.”
While Meghan has taken on many ventures since moving back to America, including launching her own lifestyle brand and Netflix show, Prince Harry has lived a quieter life.
Instead, the Duke appears to have stuck to more charitable ventures and focuses, only appearing in the limelight occasionally with his wife.
This latest example was when he stepped out at Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday party on November 8 with his wife.
