Robert Icke’s production to open in March 2026
A new production of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet is coming to the West End in 2026, starring Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink as Juliet, and Hamnet’s Noah Jupe.
Romeo & Juliet is playing at the West End’s Harold Pinter Theatre in London from 16 March to 6 June 2026.
The production is a revival of Olivier Award winner Robert Icke’s acclaimed adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, which he will also direct.
The news was first broken by Baz Bamigboye in Deadline.
In Icke’s production, a digital clock counts down the minutes in a story in which time and fate are heightened, and Sliding Doors moments suggest alternative scenarios for the star-crossed lovers.
Robert Icke returns to the West End following his triumphant, Olivier Award-winning production of Oedipus starring Mark Strong and Lesley Manville, which opened last week on Broadway to much acclaim.
Icke’s other recent work includes last year’s Manhunt at the Royal Court, Player Kings starring Ian McKellen, and Animal Farm which is touring in 2026.
Romeo & Juliet is produced by Empire Street Productions, the company behind Prima Facie with Jodie Comer, Slave Play with Kit Harington, Self Esteem – A Complicated Woman, and Elektra starring Brie Larson.
The wider creative team joining Robert Icke will include set and costume design by Hildegard Bechtler, lighting design by Jon Clark, sound design by Tom Gibbons, video design by Ash J. Woodward, and casting by Julia Horan and Jim Carnahan.
