Birmingham has been warned over the prospect of ice and the chance of snow overnight.

The Met Office issued an 11-hour yellow weather warning between midnight and 11 am tomorrow, Wednesday, November 19.

Icy roads and hill snow are expected in the West Midlands, the Met Office said.

The Met Office said; “Yellow warning: Rain and hill snow, followed by clearing skies, will lead to the risk of icy patches on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

“Outbreaks of rain will spread southwards on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, potentially falling as snow on hills for a time, before clearing to the south.

“As skies clear later, allowing temperatures to fall close to or below freezing, this will bring the risk of icy patches on untreated surfaces.

“Some temporary slushy snow deposits will be possible where snow persists for long enough, especially on grassy surfaces, but any significant accumulations will be largely restricted to communities and transport routes above about 300 m elevation.”

In a forecast for the West Midlands, the Met Office said: “This Evening and Tonight: Cloudy overnight with outbreaks of rain, sleet and hill snow pushing across the region.

“Skies clearing later, allowing temperatures to fall close to freezing and resulting in icy stretches on untreated surfaces.

“Turning increasingly blustery. Minimum temperature 0C.

“Wednesday: Any remaining cloud and hill snow soon clearing, leaving the region with a largely dry and sunny day.

“Feeling cold despite this, particularly when exposed to the brisk northerly winds. Maximum temperature 5C.

“Outlook for Thursday to Saturday: Staying mostly dry but cold for Thursday and Friday with sunny spells.

“A change this weekend as rain moves in, allowing temperatures to increase towards average.”
